The Foundation for the Environment & Urban Life (“The Fund”) was established in 2006. It has offices in Englewood, New Jersey (just outside New York City), and Berkeley, California.
The Fund’s mission, objective, strategy and target audiences are straight-forward.
Our mission is to support projects and programs with promise of significant local or broader-reaching impacts on environmental quality and urban life. We seek to initiate change.
Our strategy is
to focus on groups that implement and/or promote innovative activities
that will benefit the environment and urban life. We expressly seek
new ideas, and recognize the power of new ideas and communications
about new ideas and their impacts. We seek primarily to operationalize local and regional sustainability solutions, as opposed to technology, "hard" research or similar activities. We seek “social entrepreneurs”
whose energy and passion can make visions happen. Endeavors that integrate
efforts of the public, private and non-profit sectors have particular
appeal. We are also interested in
supporting communications programs that will create
wider awareness of environmental and urban issues, innovations, solutions, and behavior change, We prefer projects that can gain broad attention. In selected situations we can provide funds to support wider fund-raising efforts for more comprehensive programs, or otherwise leverage our resources. Our board and staff willingly participate in selected projects, when appropriate.
MISSION:
To support projects and programs with promise of significant
local and broader-reaching impacts on environmental quality and urban
life. We seek to initiate change.
